Facts about Racing and Gaming

Racetracks with gaming operations are proven to attract and support good businesses in the immediate and surrounding areas, as outlined in an economic impact report of the racetrack and gaming facility in Saratoga.

Gaming operations are allowed in Maine only at commercial tracks, and the gaming operations are the only business in Maine that pays a local revenue-based tax.  By state law the town is guaranteed a special tax of at least 4% of gross gaming revenues; three-quarters of that special tax must come from a contract the track owner is required to sign with the town, and the town is entitled to negotiate for other benefits as well;

Police chiefs and city leaders in Bangor, Saratoga, Dover, Delaware, and many other towns with track-based gaming operations confirm that these businesses make great neighbors and attract good customers and visitors.
